One Thankful Girl

"Ok...let me start by saying how thankful I am that I was not sitting in that "tin can" we have been camping in this week when that "killer storm" came through in the middle of the night. It turns out that, after I left my friends yesterday and got back to the camper, the air had stopped working. After an unsuccessful attempt to fix said air (is it wrong that I was praying for failure?) we packed up and went home. I woke up at 1:15 AM to a storm that would have caused a major heart attack to at least 3 out of 5 of us had we been in that camper. All I could think about is that surely Jesus wouldn't give me such a good day and then just kill me would He? Thank you, Jesus, for breaking our air.

Now, back to the other reason I am thankful. I had the privilege of a "meet in real life" lunch yesterday with three precious women of God. I am not posting a pic because I think that the ones I met with are the only ones who read my blog anyway! (hehe) Anyway I got to meet Linda, Lisa, and got to see my buddy Lisa again. We had a blast, talked non-stop about all manner of subjects, and I am thankful that the Lord loves us enough to send sweet people into our lives that we would otherwise never meet this side of Heaven! You ladies rock!

Now, I have to get back to praying that the air in that camper will stay broken at least until Friday so I don't have to go back! Yes, I am a wimp and proud of it :)

Help Me, Please...

Hey girls, I am super excited that my family is going to New York City in a couple of weeks. We have never been there so that is why I am asking for your help. If any of you have been to the Big Apple and just so happen to know your way around, I am in serious need of some pointers...where to stay, where to go, WHERE TO SHOP, is there a nice beach close by, etc. Basically anything a redneck from the south might need to know. By the way we are on the waiting list for Mike Huckabee Show tickets. Woo Hoo. We are also going to Washington D.C. but I have been there before so I think I can handle it. Except for the fact that I get so excited over all things politics that I dang near hyperventilate the whole time I'm there!

And they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly...

The Lost Art of the Closed Mouth

Don't you just love how the Lord speaks in themes in our lives? Those times where everywhere you turn, there is the same message smacking you again?

So.

It seems that I have enrolled myself in the school of "keep your mouth shut." My attention has been drawn to the barrage of loud-mouth women who seem to have lost all self-control somewhere along the way...and I'm just talking about church women here. Maybe it has a little something to do with the fact that I have been studying all the Bible has to say on the tongue and the words we speak. And let me tell you, there is plenty! Whew! The Holy Spirit has been all up in my business as I have immersed myself in writing this study for my Sunday School class. Every word I speak has the power to bring life of death. And I will have to give an account for every one of those words before the Lord. Anybody have a muzzle I can borrow?

But here's what gets me the most:

1 Peter 3:1-4

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

When others look at us, they see our outward appearance to judge whether or not we are beautiful. But not the Lord. What kind of woman does it take for the Lord to look down and say, "now there's a beautiful woman." It appears that it would be one with a meek and quiet spirit. And I so want to be that woman.

Meekness does not equal weakness! Meekness is having strength under control. It is knowing when to keep you mouth shut. To think before we speak. To know when to speak and when to be quiet. To know how to respond to others like Jesus did. Everybody wants to wear the WWJD bracelet, but not many people want to actually do what Jesus would do.

I am daily hourly surrendering myself to the Lord in this area. Muzzle or no muzzle, I am determined to do the rare thing and be a woman with a meek and quiet spirit.

Update

Thanks so much for praying for my mom. The oncologist doesn't think it's leukemia! Nothing like a good scare, but praise God for the good news. Just to be sure she is having a bone marrow biopsy later this week. Please continue to keep her in your prayers.

There is so much going on right now. Whew! I am so excited to report that the Lord is calling me back to my first ministry love, which is helping post-abortive women to overcome the lies of the enemy and be set free through God's Word! I have missed that ministry so much in the past 6 months and I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and dive back in. The Lord set me free from the guilt and shame of abortion many years ago and I just can't help but give back in this same area out of gratitude. There are so many women all around us who are suffering in shame and silence and it's time to stand up and speak TRUTH! Want to know more? Visit my blog buddy Pat here for a cool giveaway as well as a God-ordained ministry to the hurting. The Lord is setting captives free through this ministry of reconciliation!
What an honor to be a part!

Anyone else excited about a calling on your life? I would love to hear about it!

Please Pray

Ladies,

I need your prayers yet again. My mom was diagnosed with leukemia yesterday and we are about to go to the oncologist to find out more. Please pray for the results and that she will find her strength in the Lord.

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.

Are You Kidding Me?

So maybe I watch too much news...even if it is Fox News! And I will be the first to admit that our country is on a slippery slope of moral decline and that the church is under attack. But just when I think nothing surprises me, I see a story about a San Diego pastor and wife. Please see story below:

Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, Calif. home for a bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County.

"On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county." David Jones told FOX News.

"We told them this is not really a religious assembly — this is just a bible study with friends. We have a meal, we pray, that was all," Jones said.

A few days later, the couple received a written warning that cited "unlawful use of land," ordering them to either "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit," the couple's attorney Dean Broyles told San Diego news station 10News.

But the major use permit could cost the Jones' thousands of dollars just to have a few friends over.

For David and Mary Jones, it's about more than a question of money.

"The government may not prohibit the free exercise of religion," Broyles told FOX News. "I believe that our Founding Fathers would roll over in their grave if they saw that here in the year 2009, a pastor and his wife are being told that they cannot hold a simple bible study in their own home."

"The implications are great because it’s not only us that’s involved," Mary Jones said. "There are thousands and thousands of bible studies that are held all across the country. What we’re interested in is setting a precedent here — before it goes any further — and that we have it settled for the future."

The couple is planning to dispute the county's order this week.

If San Diego County refuses to allow the pastor and his wife to continue gathering without acquiring a permit, they will consider a lawsuit in federal court.

Are you stinkin' kidding me?

Now we are going to be told who we can and can't have over to our house? Did anyone notice the last line...Federal Court? For having a Bible Study in their home? Does this bother anyone else?

Girls, I fear this is where we are headed. And we are headed there fast. What is our responsibility?

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
2 Chronicles 7:14-15

Get to prayin' girls!!!

Dinner and A Counseling Session

You might be a pastor's wife if...

Date night consists of dinner and either: a funeral, a hospital visit, or a counseling session!

Now, I'm not bitter, I'm just sayin' that wonderful date night I told you guys about, you know the one with no kids, was abruptly interrupted by an emergency call that ended our romantic evening at a church member's house counseling. Ugh!

And while I'm on the pastor's wife kick...I know I have asked this question in the past, but if you are a pastor's wife or you happen to know one really well, what do you think about her having close friends in the church? How is that working for her? Because, I am just in the mood to be honest, it ain't working so well for me. The jealousy and drama are literally draining me of all joy and something has got to give. Which is really sad because I am a relational person and I need my friends and there is just something about those who you worship with on a weekly basis. I'm just not one to be distant, ya know? I'm open to advice before I start visiting other churches. Hehe! Just another reason why I need you girls so much!

By the way, I wouldn't trade ministry for the world. But a nice long vacation would be great!

I hope you girls have a Happy Memorial Day. I thank the Lord for those who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms we all enjoy. America is still the greatest country on the face of the earth!
